Please note: this walking tour is only accessible by reservation.
The Waalsdorpervlakte is synonymous with the Remembrance of the Dead on May 4th. The area has a remarkable history, transitioning from a military terrain to a Natura 2000 area, with the commemoration running through it like a common thread.
Bunker Day
During Bunker Day, the Waalsdorp Honor Guard – who organize the annual commemoration – offers you the opportunity to learn more about the specifics of the monument and the commemoration. There are four special places that are part of the monument, some of which are only accessible under the guidance of members of the Honor Guard. Definitely worth a visit.
The tour will last approximately 60 minutes, after which you can return to the parking lot, or take another walk/bike tour in this extensive area. We kindly ask you to wear appropriate footwear for both the walk from the parking lot and the tour. During the tour, we will also visit places that are not paved.
Meeting point: If you come by car, you can park in the parking lot near the shooting range and then take a walk of approximately 1.5 kilometers at your own pace to the monument, where you will be welcomed by the Honor Guard.
If you come by bike, you can ride up to the grass field in front of the monument, where you will be welcomed by the Honor Guard.
Cost: €8.50 per person (including administration fees)
