The Bunker Museum IJmuiden consists of a substantial complex under the name Widerstandsnest 81. During Bunkerdag, the Seehund Bunker is open, where visitors can admire the wreck of the mini-submarine of the type XXVII-B Seehund. Various activities are organized at the museum.
Widerstandsnest 81 is hidden in a corner of the original Coastal Artillery position Heerenduinen. From this position, the IJmuiden harbor mouth was defended, thereby safeguarding access to the port of Amsterdam.
TIP: Diagonally across the road, you can cross and walk along the bunker path past a row of 4 gun bunkers and 1 fire control post of the coastal battery Heerenduin. They are nicely lined up next to each other and impressive to see. For true enthusiasts, further down the road, you can even admire the Flak battery Olmen.
