Bunker 623 M.G.-Schartenstand mit Vorsatzplatte
These bunkers are constructed bombproof with walls and roofs of at least 2 meters thick reinforced concrete. A total of 6 examples of this type have been built along the Landfront. In contrast to the bunkers of type 630, the machine gun was positioned behind a mere 6 cm thick armor plate. Due to this vulnerable protection, this type of bunker was not allowed to be positioned for frontal firing, but only for flanking. This means that the firing opening of the bunker was not directly facing the enemy side, but somewhat shielded from it. The personnel of the bunker consisted of 6 soldiers and had their own living space with beds, cabinets, tables, and stools available. In this bunker design, a separate storage space for the ammunition stock was included, as well as an access area and a firing hole to defend the entrance of the bunker. For observation purposes, a periscope and an open observation post were present.
