Bunker Complex De Punt – Widerstandsnest 220 H

Even though Goeree-Overflakkee was strategically insignificant (it contained no important industries, harbours or railways), the head of the island was an important part of the German line of defence due to its geographical position on the coast. For this reason, Goeree was fortified from the east (Stellendam) to the west coast (de Punt) with in size and function varying buildings and structures. A heavy infantry post was built at de Punt – a strategically essential location due to a clear trajectory for cannon fire towards the entrance of the Grevelingen between Goeree and Schouwen.

The bunker complex Widerstandsnest 220 H (de Punt) now consists of 15 bunkers that are open to visit. Extensive information panels and enthusiastic volunteers provide more information about the site and its history. Guided tours are available throughout the day, starting whenever a large enough group has assembled.

Please note that the entrance to this complex is directly adjacent to the road. There is a sign next to the path indicating the direction in which to walk. After a short walk through the sand you will arrive at the bunkers.
