Experience how men and women escaped occupied Holland and continued their resistance against Nazi Germany and Japan from English territory in Museum Engelandvaarders.
Hundreds fled in ramshackle boats that were hardly seaworthy, some even in canoes. Many drowned at sea or were arrested, imprisoned or shot dead while preparing to escape. Others fled over land via Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal and even Russia. Over 2000 Dutch persevered, arrived eventually in England and made their contribution to the liberation of Europe.
The museum is housed in a munitions bunker.
