Wassermann bunker

The Wassermann bunker is a radar antenna bunker and observation post.

The Germans built a bunker on the highest dune on the island for a radar. A radar system (the ‘Wassermann’) was to be installed on top of the bunker, constructed from a steel cylinder, approximately 40 meters high. When the bunker was ready, the mast did not fit in the previously installed base. Sabotage? In any case, the system was never operational. In the end, the bunker did not have any role in German air defence. The construction of the Wassermann took a total of nine months.

Tip: climb on top of the bunker and enjoy the beautiful view!
