Walk + audio tour Wijk aan Zee

Tour 1: Loop around Wijk aan Zee, nature, steel, history
The route of approx. 6 km leads through high dunes, valleys, and forest, past the most beautiful and interesting spots. A true journey of discovery to traces of the past: the foundation of a beacon from 1300, a lunette from 1800, and a number of bunkers from the Second World War. Enjoy the special and rare plants that grow here, such as the Blue Sea Thistle and the Hound’s-tongue in a varied landscape of the seaside villages.

The walking tour starts at the information board on Julianaplein, but can of course be started anywhere by simply following the Rondje Wijk aan Zee route signs. Click on a point of interest, in this case number 1 at the church. You will open a photo with informative text. This text can also be listened to. This allows you to experience the route as an audio tour using a mobile phone and headphones. The tour can also be read and listened to at home or used as educational material for children (10+).

Tour 2: Wijk aan Zee in Wartime
The walk takes you past places in Wijk aan Zee that played a role during the Second World War. We go back in time to the years of the occupation. We visit Bets, Wim, Dook, Rietje, Cees, and other residents from that era. What was it like to have to work for the Germans or to have to leave and abandon everything? We discover where the barrier, the tank trap, and the Lazaret were located. Where the Georgians, the bunker builders, and the German officers lived.

Click on a point of interest on the map of Wijk aan Zee. This opens a screen with a photo and information about a house, a street, or a place that refers to an event in the Second World War. The information is presented both in text with photos and in an audio file. You can experience the route as an audio tour using a mobile phone and headphones. The tour can also be read and listened to at home or used as educational material for children (10+). Our walking tour starts at the Rondje Wijk aan Zee information board on Julianaplein.
