Visit Bunkermuseum Zoutelande

Zoutelande was defended by two strongpoints, named after the operas ‘Meistersinger’ and ‘Lohengrin’ by the composer Richard Wagner. Located in the dunes of Zoutelande are a personnel bunker (Type 502) and an observation bunker (Type 143) that belonged to the Stützpunkt Lohengrin. The observation bunker was built on the high dune, from where the Germans had an excellent view not only of the Scheldt estuary and the beaches, but also of the entire island of Walcheren. The Zoutelande Bunker Museum is housed in both bunkers.
