This Dutch group depicts a German conscript regiment from the 1940s. These were not the ‘tough guys’ or serious fanatics but often ordinary average men who had to serve, whether they wanted to or not. Such a regiment consisted of men from various backgrounds, such as bakers, butchers and schoolteachers.
