Hidden among the trees and concealed beneath an earthen embankment lies a Second World War radio bunker on the outskirts of Ouddorp. This bunker was part of the WN 228H command complex. This radio bunker is now being opened to the public for the first time after 81 years. It is a large masonry bunker, equipped with spacious rooms for equipment and personnel.
Radios and telephones were kept in this radio bunker to maintain contact with the bunkers located in the dunes of Ouddorp, as part of the Atlantic Wall. These bunkers were built so that the German occupiers could defend themselves against potential attacks by the Allies.
During Bunker Day, various activities will take place in and around the bunker. There will be continuous demonstrations by amateur radio operators making contact with other amateurs via satellite and antennas. Children can learn how a Morse key works.
A collection of collected German radio equipment and found German artifacts can be admired. There will also be demonstrations featuring miniature tanks simulating a battle.
Various vintage the Second World War motorcycles will also be on display around the radio bunker.
Please note: this bunker is located on private property (Hermansweg 4 in Ouddorp). Parking is available at the primary school (Margrietweg 6, 3253 BM Ouddorp). The walking route is indicated by signs.
