Widerstandsnest 320 is an auxiliary bunker complex with 9 bunkers on a relatively small plot. In addition to the bunkers where the soldiers slept, or where they guarded the cannons, there were numerous bunkers with support functions.
This type 622 barracks bunker is an intact time capsule in which both WWII and the Cold War remain discernable. The bunker provided shelter for 2 groups, each of 10 soldiers, hence the German name: ‘Doppelgruppenunterstand’ (‘Double group shelter’). The bunker type is often seen in the Atlantic Wall.
The Dutch Royal Army used the bunker in the Cold War. As a result, a number of important features from WWII have been preserved.
The bunker has not been opened before. It is in a bad state due to the effects of damp but real enthusiasts will see the beauty of this bunker in its decay.
Make sure to bring your torch and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
