German infantry defense during the time of the Atlantic Wall was highly concentrated around Vlissingen and Breskens. These centers, respectively a Verteidigungsbereich and a Stützpunktgruppe, were equipped with numerous bunkers. The Stützpunktgruppe Breskens was to comprise several strongpoints in West Zeelandic Flanders. Around the village, the Panzerstützpunkt Breskens was to be equipped with fortifications featuring armor-steel elements such as domes and plates. It was thus determined that a machine-gun bunker had to be built between the two moats of the former Fort Frederik Hendrik. This Type 112 Neu was equipped with a heavy armor-steel dome with six firing ports from which two heavy machine guns were deployed. Incidentally, this type was a modified design and was built three times in Breskens. This is the only complete example of the Atlantic Wall.
