To provide the soldiers within the Stützpunktgruppe with good medical care, a large hospital complex (Truppenverbandplatz) was built just outside Ouddorp in early 1944.
The complex consists of three masonry ‘sick wards’ with attached water storage. Rainwater was collected on the roofs of the bunkers and stored in large 1,700-liter tanks. The water was used for flushing toilets, washing, and cleaning the bunkers. Hygiene was of great importance in a hospital. Additionally, there were two bunkers that served as an operating room and as accommodation for the doctors and nursing staff. A heavy concrete telephone bunker, G7, is also situated adjacent to the complex. To clarify the function of the structures, red crosses were painted on a light background in various locations.
The hospital complex is still almost entirely intact. As of 2020, three sick wards, two accommodation bunkers, and three toilet buildings can be found there. The two shelter bunkers are included in the Bunker Forest. This is maintained by Staatsbosbeheer. One of the two bunkers has been set up as a bat roost and is closed off to ensure peace and quiet for this protected species.
Important parking information:
This bunker is located on private property and it is not possible to park on the lawn in front of the bunker. Parking is available at the football club across the road (Hofdijksweg 46, 3253 KB Ouddorp). From here, it is a 250-meter / 3-minute walk.
