Exhibition: 80 Years of Liberation – Ameland
As part of the liberation celebrations, an educational exhibition will be organized focusing on the events that took place on Ameland during World War II. A photographic timeline will present the island’s wartime history, with special emphasis on the liberation of Ameland.
Although the Netherlands was officially liberated on May 5, 1945, Ameland’s liberation did not occur until June 3, 1945. This exhibition highlights that unique period, emphasizing the long wait for freedom even after the national liberation.
The exhibition consists of a series of display panels along the bicycle path, starting from the parking area at the top of the dune near Sier aan Zee and leading to the Bunker Museum.
In addition, a temporary exhibition will be held at the Maritime Centre “Abraham Fock” in Hollum. Through personal stories and historical objects, this exhibition commemorates 80 years of freedom and offers residents and visitors of Ameland the opportunity to reflect on the historical events and the importance of liberty.
Open from May 1 to July 1, 2025, at the Maritime Centre Abraham Fock, Hollum, Ameland.
