This air-raid shelter is a bomb-proof bunker and had two functions: a cannon could be placed and the defenses housed operating personnel.
It concerns a type ST 504 bunker, which was also called a pak-untersalraum mit gruppe. ‘ST’ stands for Ständig, which means that the bunker was bomb-proof, could be closed gas-tight and had an air filter installation. The special feature of this bunker is that it has an attached gallery in addition to the standard design. The reason for this is that the entrance was inaccessible to direct fire from the sea. This extension can also be seen at the other three ST bunkers that are located in De Punt. Despite the special extension, the bunker is also a rare type for the Netherlands. There are only three ST 504 bunkers in the country.
The bunker had space in the roof for a periscope and for antennas that made telephone contact possible. From the ST 504 two paths led to two open platforms. The route concerns numbers 2 and 11. The path to number 2 is still partly visible, the path to number 11 was probably a gravel path and has faded over time.
The bunker had room for one gruppe, which is 11 men. A bunch of keys has been found on the complex. The keys to the 4ST bunkers are attached to this. Each key has a zinc plate on which the baupunkt number, bunker type and key number are stated.
This third bunker in De Punt is one of the bunkers that has been visible to the public for some time. This can be clearly seen from the layers of graffiti that the bunker has accumulated in recent years. The doors you see were placed to protect the bats.
