In 1943 the German occupier built a command center consisting of thirteen bunkers in the Nieuwe Scheveningse Bosjes. The staff department present in the complex, led by SS-Oberführer Erwin Tzschoppe, was charged with military command over the defense of the Stützpunktgruppe Scheveningen. In case of enemy threats, they could command at this type 608 command bunker located on the edge of the Nieuwe Scheveningse Bosjes. The bunker was extra strong with walls of three meters thick reinforced concrete.
In the command bunker you can see the original communication equipment and an area has been furnished as it looked in the Second World War. Imagine what it was like to sit in here: what a noise the air purification must have made. And it probably didn’t always smell good either, because the toilet was outside the bunker. The volunteers of Stichting Atlantikwall Museum Den Haag will tell you all about it.
