The construction of the Atlantic Wall has dramatic consequences for coastal residents in the Netherlands. The dunes, the beach and the boulevards become a forbidden area. Thousands of houses are being demolished and the residents have to find shelter elsewhere. The men who can stay are called up for the “Arbeitseinsatz”. They are forced to cooperate in destroying their own coastal area.
In this comic book, get to know Hans and Willy, two fanatical German soldiers who have been guarding the west coast of the Third Reich in South Holland since 1942. As the war progresses, more and more hairline cracks appear in Hans and Willy’s beliefs. After all, they just want to go home. Their change of mood coincides with the slow but inevitable decline of the hated Third Reich.
The cartoonist, Hennie Vaessen, signs the books on the spot with a beautiful drawing.
Experts were used for the comic book to ensure historical authenticity. For this book we received help from Atlantic Wall connoisseur Jeroen Rijpsma. The stipboek was created in collaboration with the Atlantikwall Heritage Line of the Province of South Holland.
