During Bunker Day, various binoculars from private collections can also be viewed and used. From the dune, you have a magnificent view of the sea and the surroundings. Among the binoculars are three heavy German 10×80 cm tripod binoculars. These binoculars were used on Vlieland, among other things, as Scheinwerferrichtungsweiser, to guide the light beam of a searchlight to an overflying RAF bomber in the dark night. One of the binoculars was attached to a Leitrichtgerät, a device with a similar function.
Once an aircraft was captured in the beam of the searchlights, the fire control of the anti-aircraft batteries could calculate the firing parameters and engage the bomber with anti-aircraft artillery.
