In the sights of coastal defense

The German military binoculars will be set up on the edge of the dune ridge during Bunker Day. Visitors can then look out over the surroundings and the sea through these historic binoculars. This involves our handheld binoculars, but especially the heavy tripod binoculars, the same ones that were deployed on Vlieland during the war. One or more volunteers will be standing by the binoculars to provide explanations about them. The activity takes place during Bunker Day, from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Searchers with mobility issues Of the fortifications built on Vlieland, Wn 12H is the only one that has been preserved; the others were demolished or ended up on the beach due to dune erosion. For a long time, the entire complex was hidden under the dune sand, but thanks to the efforts of many volunteers, the bunkers and trenches have been excavated and restored.
