Activities Kazemattenmuseum

There is much to see and experience at the Casemate Museum. The museum is fully furnished to resemble how it looked in that era, and the stories are sure to make an impression on you. There are stories and exhibitions covering the period from the construction of the Afsluitdijk up to the Cold War era. The goal of these exhibitions is to convey and keep alive the historical events surrounding Kornwerderzand. What can you find here?

There is a replica casemate made of earth and wood, just like those found in the Wonsstelling. Casemate IV – Command Casemate is dedicated to the war days of May 1940. Captain Boers commanded the position from this casemate.

In Casemate V – Machine Gun Casemate, there is a periscope. The story of the resistance in the region, weapons drops, and the crashed Lockheed Hudson is told. In Casemate VI – Gun Casemate, the story of the air war around the IJsselmeer and the liberation is told. In Casemate VII – Searchlight Casemate, you can see the complete searchlight installation consisting of a floodlight and mirrors. This casemate has the Cold War as its theme. In Casemate XIV – Kitchen Casemate and Anti-Aircraft Shed, the story of the mobilization and the Wonsstelling, which was located a few kilometers off the Frisian coast, is told. In the German guardroom, an animated film about the navy and the gunboat Hr. Ms. Johan Maurits van Nassau is shown. German guardroom where more is told about the Atlantic Wall. German bunker of Type 667 with German construction number 1492. Equipped with a 5 cm Kampfwagen gun. In the German kitchen from 1943, the plans for the construction and development of the Afsluitdijk are explained.

Various re-enactment groups are present at the Kazemattenmuseum, such as the DKA (Dutch Coastal Artillery). There are military vehicles on display, there is a shop and there are sea cadets.
