Walking Tour of Waalsdorpervlakte

During Bunker Day, the Waalsdorp Honor Guard – who organize the annual commemoration – offers you the opportunity to learn more about the specifics of the monument and the commemoration. There are four special places that are part of the monument, some of which are only accessible under the guidance of members of the Honor Guard. Definitely worth a visit.

Wijk aan Zee: Mine chair

During excavation in 2022 for laying electricity cables from the wind turbine off shore Wijk aan Zee to the coast a few naval mine anchors where brought ashore.

Excursion to the ‘Batterie’

Under the guidance of a guide, you can participate in an excursion to the Batterie position on Schiermonnikoog for the day. This position was the major artillery position on the island during World War II.

Spit of land at the Ferry Harbor Hellevoetsluis

The Nazis used the military grounds at this location during the Second World War and expanded their air defense with a bed equipped with anti-aircraft guns (FLAK) and used an already present Dutch military object to serve as troops’ quarters. A special place because this is normally an area that cannot be entered.

Command bunker 117a ‘Wing bunker’ 

This command bunker of type 117a is nicknamed “wing bunker” or “whale bunker.” This name is derived from the large stabilizing piece built onto the bunker, which has the specific shape of a whale tail or airplane tail. 

Bunkercomplex Hoeverweg

This bunkercomplex was built during World War II by the German occupiers as a defensive point for the former Bergen airfield used by them. The complex is located south of the airfield, and currently, 13 structures remain.

Exhibition Atlantic Wall maps

This exhibition features reproductions of unique topographical and thematic map material that was used by the German armed forces during the Second World War for the planning and construction of the Atlantic Wall.

Bunkermuseum Wn12H Vlieland

The bunkers of Wn 12H are the only one on Vlieland that has ‘survived’, the others have been demolished or ended up on the beach

Wijk aan Zee: Tetraëder 

Fall 2021, a concrete tetrahedron beach obstacle has been rebuild on this position. Its original concrete poles, of 120kg each, as well as the even heavier obstacle head, where found during excavation on the beach.  

Bunker Hamburg

The bunker is still in its original condition, so you will enter a real time capsule.

Audiotour ‘Indestructible Stories’

The audio tour “Indestructible Stories” takes you back to the period of the Second World War and brings back special memories of soldiers, resistance fighters and former residents of Kornwerderzand.

Observation bunker type 143

The observation bunker had a 20-tonne armoured-steel observation dome integrated into the roof. The surrounding area could be viewed using a periscope in the dome.
